Worst Experience!!! Do not go to this restaurant!!. Eight of us attended a group function in Winston-Salem and arrived at Putter's together. We were told that the only table for eight was outside. Since it was a 94 degree day, we said we would sit inside as two groups of four. We were seated in two booths across the aisle from each other, but the noise in the restaurant was so loud that the two groups could not talk to each other. When we protested being charged the 18% gratuity for groups of eight, the man at the cash register yelled at us, threw our bills on the floor, threatened to turn us over to the police for not paying the tip, and would not give us his name. Our waitress also yelled at us and told us she had to protect herself against us, which is interesting because many of us routinely pay a 20% tip for good service. We will never return to this restaurant and advise you not to go either!

Major disappointment. I used to be a regular customer at Putter's, however the service has been slowing declining. No more can you show up at lunch time and get out of there in an hour. You have to plan to be there by 11:30 a.m. or not until after 1 p.m. And it's not because there are so many patrons, it's because there is never enough wait staff. Recently, when sitting out at the patio, I have had to go into the restaurant to get someone's attention because they never seem to come back within a reasonable amount of time. I observed the other night, a couple that came in for the first time and sat in the bar area for more than 20 mintues before someone came over to greet them with a menu. It was another 20 or more minutes before that wait staff came back to take their order. They may claim they have the best steaks in town, but if you have to wait more than an hour just to get your order, in my opinion, no steak is worth it. Also, they never seem to have any specials. Every restaurant you go to these days has specials. If it's not food specials, it's drink specials. Not this place. The menu never changes but the prices keep going up. To pay over $20 for a steak that took an hour to get to me is ridiculous. For that price, I should be contantly checked on to see if I need anything. And it's not like the atmosphere makes up for the prices........it's a bar/grill with 3 TV's showing sports most of the time. I feel a good steak at a place like that shouldn't be more than $15. You can go to Ryan's or Christopher's and pay similar prices and the atmosphere is so much nicer. Anyway, I won't be wasting my money going to this restaurant any more.

A big disappointment. This restaurant boasts a sign that states the best steaks in winston-salem. It should say the most expensive. The cheapest steak in this greasy spoon is priced at 21.00 and comes with a side of french fries instead of mashed potatoes. One person in our group had a average tasting hamburger that was priced over $7. We tried the nachos as a starter, and it cost $5.50 and an additional $2 for chili. The nachos were just a small basket of chips and three cups of salsa, chili, and cheese on the side that came in a small plastic dixie cup. This restaurant is definatly one to pass by.

Not worth a stop in. I read the review for Putter's and was ready for a good steak. I went for lunch and ordered the strip. It was not a good cut of beef for the price. I recommend that if you want a good steak do not go to putter's. They should stick to hamburgers. This is also a bad place to go if you have a group of more than four people. We had six and had to split up into two booths.

Made the JW Convention even better. We were here for the JW Convention over the long holiday weekend.

We arrived about 5:30 pm and were seated promptly. The service was great.

The waitress was very accommodating when it came to portion splitting ( very large servings) and

dividing our bill. This place is a MUST TRY.

The Best Steaks Around!. I recently visited Putters as I had heard of their steaks. To be truthful, I was not ready for the quality of food and service that I received there. It was an outstanding and memorable experience.

Furthermore, I visited their Clemmons location last Friday (5/31/2002) and they had "Prime" New York Strip steak on the menu. It may have been the best steak that I have ever had and the prices were more than reasonable. I have been to every "white tablecloth" restaurant in Winston Salem and have never had a meal quite like the meal that is served at Putters. A must try!
