Disappointing. The first visit a year ago was very good. So husband and i went back. Was not impressed. Husband had salmon which was pretty good. But I had lyonnaise steak. Big mistake. I understand that the cut of meat needs to be prepared properly to be tender. Believe me, it's been a long time since I've tried to eat a steak served that tough and chewy. And it wasn't because it was overcooked. It was practically rare (even though I ordered Medium). When we expressed our disappointment to the server, she was almost defensive. Said that if we had asked, she would have told us that it was a tough cut of meat. Excuse me but in a nice restaurant where the average dishes are over $25, I wouldn't expect to have to ask if the steak was tender. Won't go back. There are too many other options in the city.
Elegant in Winston. Have been there a few times for dinner. I like the atmosphere, simple and elegant. They also have a small bar in the corner which I have always thought would be a great place for a cosmo. The apps are great. when I when I had the steak pom frites -would not recommend it but all the other entrees were very good. I have spoken to other who go regularly and say everything is great but the steak Pommes Frites.
WOW!. There is much to admire about a quarter pounder with cheese; the melding of textures and processed cheese flavor is truly something. My wife and I went to Meridian for dinner and embarassingly ended up eating dinner at McDonalds. Not that I am embarrased as t"he standard" that we shared for dinner at 11:00 was phenominal given how we spent the last 2.5 hours of our lives. We were seated at 8:35 which, had the restaurant not been half empty, would have been great given our 8:45 reservation. Water was brought to the table and we ordered a nice bottle of wine and began to enjoy it over the next 45 minutes until we had to request that our dinner order be taken. Yummm, getting tipsy just as the first course arrives. Steak tartar was well prepared though could be confused with Alpo, and was well paired with a tartly dressed green salad and nice potato chips. The wife ordered a less daring, booring green salad that I swear we made at home the night before. This is where I am less useful as a critic... we never got any more food and all the while I was looking forward to the black grouper with shrimp, grits and roasted tomato reduction; my wife the scallop risotto with pumpkin. I know, it sounds great but may be completely made up since it neeeeeever came. We had to ask mulitple servers about the status of the order (oh, and I am a patient person and have never written a restaurant review {so take this for what that's worth}) eventually, as much as the baby sitter back home ($15/hr) was looooving it, I had to call time after 2 hours and no sign of an entree. Dang! On the bright side however, our pretty good appies' and bottle of wine were comp'd. The dark side is that now we feel obligated to give them another chance...
Fabulous Restaurant. The menu was creative and exciting. Everything was wonderful. I just looked up the menu online to remind myself of what we ate but it has already been updated with even more mouth-watering choices. Although the ingredients may seem overdone or pretentious they all contribute to the sophistication of the dish. Wish we lived in W-S so that we could go back more often!
