Great food, lousy service. My son gave me a gift certificate to Jimmy's saying that he and his wife had gone there and thought we would like it.I have no problems with the quality of the food. It was very good but very much over priced for what it was. The food is not their problem though. Once seated we sat there for 19 minutes with our menus on the table open in front of us and finally the waitress came up and apologized saying she forgot about our table. She did apologize over again and the wait for our food was quite reasonable. But that was the end of her. She never would come back to check on us and we were out of drinks when she brought our food to us. She said she would be right back but never returned. We flagged down another waitress but she said she couldn't help us but would try to find her for us. Never happened. I went to the hostess and she finally got her to come to our table. She did not say anything to us this time but did bring us our drinks after we had finished eating. The restaurant was not overly crowded as there were several empty tables all around us. The food is not the problem here, the service is. I see the same complaints from other reviews with this problem. The manager needs to worry about service as well as quality of food. As for this customer, I think I will pass on going back there. Too many other good restaurants around to waste my evening there!
Best Seafood in Triad.
I have lived in Greensboro for about 15 years and recently moved to Forsyth County. I can say with certainty, that Jimmy's Oyster Bar & Seafood is better than any seafood place in Greensboro, or Winston-Salem. I have been to Jimmy's maybe 6 or 7 times over this past year.
The taste, quality, and freshness (that parts really important) of their food is the best of any local seafood place I have tried. I usually go to the outer banks of NC every summer and this place reminds me a lot of one of the charming laid back restaurants by the beach with fresh seafood. They have a very similar style and environment.
It is a casual environment. You can wear jeans and feel comfortable. Some nights they have a live band :) Tuesday's is crab night, and you can get snow crab for $9.99 a pound. The snow crab is very very good.
They have a good variety of selections.
The price is around the same as Outback Steak House. Not super cheap, but not way high end either. A nice place to take a date, and not break the bank.
This is not a chain restsraunt, and on most nights you can find the guy who started and still owns the place; Jimmy working. He is very friendly, and usually stops by to see how everything is.
The cheddar biscuits are average,(Red Lobsters taste little better to me.. more fluffy) but everything else I have had is outstanding. The crap and spinach dip is absolutely awesome, and 10x better than Olive Garden's spinach artichoke dip (which is really good).
Jimmy is Greek, so the place does have a few dishes with a Greek twist like "Jimmy's Cigars"- they are divine, and taste like something you would find at a really high end place. The insides area a blend of melted Greek cheeses and spinach baked into some soft phyllo with a cucumber-dill.sauce to dip it in.... they look kind of like cigars, but taste like heaven.
I've was really shocked to read the bad reviews. I have been many times, and have had an excellent experience and great food every time. The thing about the car getting broken into is really weird. It's not in a dangerous or high crime area, and shares a parking area with a nice shopping center, and is very well lit at night, but I guess those things could happen anywhere.
If your looking for a great dinning experience with excellent and fresh seafood, this is the place for you
Fantastic food, poor service. I really want to give Jimmy’s 4 or even 5 stars because we love the food that much, but the problem is the service. The hosts and hostesses are quite good and polite, and today (02/13/2011) our waitress was friendly, but she completely forgot about us until we finished eating. She brought the ticket and explained she had been busy, then she came every 2 to 3 minutes, I suppose to collect her tip. There were only about 12 other diners there as it was mid afternoon. Our past visits have been very similar. We will go back and hope for better service. We recommend because the food is fantastic, and our dining experience would have been quite perfect if we had been lucky to have had good service.
Fly in Shrimp!!!! AND Dad's Hubcaps Were Stolen.
So sad. Wanted this to be good and parts were. After all we went for my dad's birthday dinner. I'm writing an online review for the first time over this sucky experience.
We're not one's to let a fly in our grits spoil our night. That's why I didn't give it one star. It was gross. But the server handled it the way you would want her too and the manager was apologetic, comped the fly plate and gave us a gift certificate. My partner enjoyed the dish almost til the end...until the fly was discovered!!!
My stuffed grouper was delicious and so was the sweet potato. The onion blossom was exactly what you want it to be. Hush puppies-- good. cheddar biscuits--don't think they are as good as I remembered Red Lobster's being, but they are as bad for you as the Onion, so don't eat them! :)
The house dressing was decent, but the salad was just ok--croutons seemed stale.
The service in general needs work. Like, don't hand me my drink. I'm in the middle of a conversation. You can put in on the table. And when there are five people, bring five plates, not four.
In the end was not terrible, but then we found out that while we were eating part of the car was being stripped.
My Dad said he was definitely not going back and we live in another city so we won't be either.
Changed back to one star. Fly and theft override the grouper.
Been Once, Won't Go Back. I was very unimpressed with the ambiance. Not sure what i was expecting, but it had the sterile, fakey atmosphere of a TGI Friday's without the clutter. They tried hard to force it to look quaint and failed miserably. Not to mention that it is extremely loud in there. The side salad was your typical "white bread" cafeteria-style one with a few limp, sad pieces of lettuce and a couple slices of mushy tomatoes. The seafood was marginal and the sides were overcooked and bland.
Best Seafood in Town.
Their She Crab Soup is to die for. Excellent menu choices and options. There is not a bad choice on the menu.
Excellent wine list.
The staff is great. They are not overly intrusive, or scarce to be found. Perfectly attentive.
I make it a point to come here whenever I'm in town which is once, or twice a year.
You will not be disappointed. *************** **************** ***************** ******************** ********************* **************************
I had a chance to visit Jimmies again. I was majorly disappointed. The food was not the same quality that I had come to know and love. The she crab soup was still outstanding but the rest of my dinner was lack luster. It is doubtful that when I return to NC that I will go there again.
Can always count on Jimmy's. My husband and I (and usually a couple of friends) go to Jimmy's on a pretty regular basis. We always sit at the bar and we ALWAYS receive excellent service. We have sampled about half the menu items now and have never been dissappointed....particularly with the seafood. We had oysters on the half shell last Sunday and they were the best we've had this year.....anywhere! New restaurants keep opening in Winston-Salem and we try them all but we always end up coming back to Jimmy's.
the best crab legs I've ever had, friendly staff, come early on weekends if you don't want to wait. Jimmy's Seafood is my fav restaurant. Everything I've ever had there has been excellent (with the exception of dessert). The crab legs are wonderful, usually cooked just right and not left sitting so they break open like they're supposed to. They serve them with an ingenious butter warmer so your butter stays hot. The crab dip appetizer is a must; creamy and very tasty. I like that they're served with toasted pita points. Unlike other seafood places, their steaks are great, too. I'm quite fond of the Marsh, a specialty drink that is blue-green and foamy like a marsh (sans the mosquitoes) and packs a bit of kick, and they have a good beer selection. Garlic mashed potatoes as a side never fails to please the palate. Best of all, Tuesday nights are $8.95/lb. crab leg nights. Yay for Tuesdays! Hope you enjoy!
